This Earth Day, Atmos united with Venezuelan photographer and filmmaker Silvana Trevale, and author and activist Bonnie Wright in a new short film to deliver an urgent message of accountability, commitment, and, most importantly, hope.
As climate legislation and regulation is being increasingly stripped bare in the United States, a movement is underway to codify the rights that have for too long been taken for granted. It’s a reminder that our fundamental freedoms are not up for debate, and that the fight for clean water, breathable air, and a livable climate is not a political issue. It’s a human one.
“Dear future generations…
We built the foundations of our society on the idea of freedom.
Promising to protect your rights
to speak,
to gather,
to roam,
but we forgot the most important rights of all.
Your right to safe water.
Your right to clean, breathable, air.
Your right to a livable climate.
Instead, we left your future
to politics,
to permits,
to a system where pollution runs rampant—despite the cost to human health.
And when that system fails, it’s your lungs that pay the price…
But we’re not giving up now.
We’re committed to doing better—to being better
because our lives, and yours, depend on it.
The good news is, the solutions already exist—and they’re all around us.
Because the real freedom lies in the soil beneath our feet
in farms and gardens that restore the land while feeding our friends/
It moves with us
in cleaner ways to travel that connect our communities and cleans our air.
It shifts with the wind
in energy drawn from the forces of nature.
It lives in our curiosity
in the science, imagination, and wonder that help us see the Earth as kin.
And it takes shape in our own hands
in the things we build, repair, and create together.
The revolution is already underway.
Now, it’s time to put it into motion.”
