Hi I’m Hark1karan. I am a community photographer and outsider artist. I take photos of Punjabis, Sikhs and various aspects of London culture. And a few other things in between.
I think that if you want something to exist, then go out and create it yourself. That’s a big part of London. this DIY culture. It’s a cultural characteristic and a continuous one at that. A massive part of my work is collaborating with people from my communities.
In what ways does nature inspire or inform your work?
As a community photographer, nature has inspired through its aesthetic beauty, its potential to raise environmental awareness, its ability to evoke emotions, its capacity for storytelling, and its therapeutic value. By drawing inspiration from the natural world, I can create impactful and meaningful work that connects people to the beauty and importance of nature.
What does it mean to you to be part of a thriving ecosystem?
Being part of a thriving ecosystem involves recognising and embracing the web of organisms and their environment. Being conscious of our contentedness and how that impacts the self and those around us.
