I write about threats to our natural world, solutions to them, and how we humans relate to our changing planet. I interview scientists, artists and activists about topics that remind us that humans are part of nature – about things like corals and cuckoos, fungi and funerals, words and whale language. I live in Berlin, but write about places all over the world.

In what ways does nature inspire or inform your work?

Nature is in all of us, it’s our blood and breath and joy and fear. I write stories about the creatures and ideas that show me this in new ways, that celebrate humans’ place among all that’s living, and maybe remind others of the same.

What does it mean to you to be part of a thriving ecosystem?

It means giving and taking in ways that don’t deplete anyone, and always listening carefully. It means recognising the mysterious spark of life in all those I’m connected to, however many legs or leaves they have.
