In what ways does nature inspire or inform your work?
The climate crisis has been produced through acts of simplification — drawing boundaries between humans and nature, reducing entire ecosystems to capital units. Recognizing this phenomenon has opened my eyes to the abundant, thriving lifeworlds that exist beyond the furthest reaches of Anthropocene proliferation, teaching me that it is neither irreversible nor complete. I believe our greatest power against this destructive world system is our multiplicity, and my work consequently aims to cultivate a more inclusive environmental movement with nature’s boundless diversity as my guide.
What does it mean to you to be part of a thriving ecosystem?
Prescribing to an affective theory of agency, I believe my own being is defined by my encounters with other beings. To be part of a thriving ecosystem is to embrace a constant state of becoming, to see myself as part of this great whole. I strive to treat my neighbors (human and beyond) with the softness and care they reflect back to me.
