Sofia Quaglia is a freelance journalist writing about all things science and how we talk about it. Her work regularly appears in New Scientist, the New York Times, The Guardian, BBC Earth, Discover, and more. She’s on a mission to visit the entire planet by spending each month in a different country, so she’s been living on the road since 2021.

In what ways does nature inspire or inform your work?

Reporting on topics like health and the mind helps us learn the intricacies of how we exist and thrive on this planet, but writing about the environment, wildlife, and nature reminds us that we’re not the only matters of importance here. It helps put everything in perspective. I especially like to write about the creepy crawly critters, who don’t get enough credit for how brilliant they are.
