Atmos presents Enchanted Forest, a curated gathering during Climate Week NYC. A night of story, song, science, and spirit, the evening brings together authors, artists, scientists, and cultural voices to illuminate the intelligence, reciprocity, and interconnectedness of forests.

Hosted by Atmos Executive Director Theresa Perez, the program will feature acclaimed botanist and author Robin Wall Kimmerer, forest ecologist Dr. Suzanne Simard, mycologist Giuliana Furci, and Atmos Editor-in-Chief and Co-Founder Willow Defebaugh, alongside a special musical performance by Dianna Lopez.

The evening will include a viewing of selected clips from the documentary film YANUNI, presented by the film’s creators who will offer reflections on themes of Indigenous sovereignty, resistance, love, and the urgent fight to protect the planet we call home.

Guests will also experience a site-specific exhibition by artist and photographer Elizaveta Porodina, as well as opportunities to connect with a community inspired by the natural world. Through conversation, art, music, and storytelling, Enchanted Forest invites audiences to explore forests not as resources, but as living networks of relationship, resilience, and renewal.

The evening will conclude with a cocktail reception in the beautiful Astor Hall.

Robin Wall Kimmerer is a mother, grandma, plant ecologist, professor Emerita at SUNY ESF, and enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. Her book Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teaching of Plants continues to be an international bestseller. Her teachings reinforce how wider ecological understanding stems from listening to the Earth's oldest teachers: the plants. As a writer and a scientist, her interests include not only restoration of ecological communities, but restoration of our relationships to land. A lifelong student of the plants, she lives on an old farm in upstate New York, tending gardens both cultivated and wild.

Named one of TIME’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2024, she champions regenerative forestry rooted in Indigenous knowledge.

Giuliana Furci is a field mycologist, fungal activist, author, and foundress and director of the Fungi Foundation, the first NGO dedicated to fungal conservation in the world. She is an associate at Harvard University, a National Geographic Explorer, a Dame of the Order of the Star of Italy, and the deputy chair of the IUCN Fungal Conservation Committee. Giuliana is the author of several titles, including a series of field guides to Chilean fungi. She has co-authored publications that have redefined our relationship with fungi, including the publication that delimits the term “funga,” and the 3F Proposal - Fauna, Flora & Funga, and has spearheaded efforts such as the Fungal Conservation Pledge presented at the UNCBD COP16 by the governments of Chile and the UK. There are forests that feel ancient beyond language, places where rivers become roads, where mist hangs in the canopy like memory, where the boundary between human and wild begins to dissolve. This journey through Costa Rica’s Caribbean rainforest and flooded forest ecosystems invites guests into two of the country’s most extraordinary wilderness lodges: Pacuare Lodge and Tortuga Lodge.

Beginning deep within the Pacuare Protected Zone, one of the most biodiverse rainforest corridors in Central America, guests journey by river into a world of primary tropical forest, Cabécar culture, waterfalls, and hidden jungle trails. The experience then continues north into the labyrinthine waterways and flooded forests of Tortuguero National Park, where wildlife moves through an enchanted wetland ecosystem of canals, mangroves, palms, and lowland rainforest.
