For a weekend in June, right on the cusp of the year’s longest days, Lhaga Koondhor and Chanel Kah Yin Liang invited eight guests to Haus Gawaling for a celebration of light and transformation. Nestled in the heart of Mathon on the Schamserberg in Graubünden, Switzerland, Haus Gawaling is an artist residency devoted to rest and renewal.
The carefully chosen group brought together a range of artistic practices and perspectives, united by a shared energy that unfolded into an atmosphere of exchange and care. Reflection and adaptation defined the weekend: Expected moments gave way to growth; sundown hikes turned into dawn; workshops evolved into long conversations.
“As long as space endures, and as long as the world exists, may I too remain to dispel the suffering of beings,” read Tsewang, Lhaga’s aunt and one of the sisters who first discovered and rebuilt the place that is now Haus Gawaling. You can discover a lot in three days here—knowledge that grows quietly within you or drifts by slowly, allowing you to take what you need. Even after you leave, the house continues to expand; the book never truly closes.
